Teenager identified as possible suspect in Steinbach bomb threat – SteinbachOnline.com

A teenage boy has been identified in connection with Tuesday’s bomb threat in Steinbach.

At approximately 10:35 a.m., Steinbach RCMP received information about a bomb threat against Steinbach Regional Secondary School (SRSS). RCMP and the Steinbach Fire Department immediately responded to the scene and the school was evacuated as a precaution.

At 11:07 a.m., the Hanover School Division released a statement noting that students had been sent to Stonybrook Middle School.

RCMP discovered that an unknown man had called from a payphone reporting a threat.

Manitoba RCMP Police Dog Services were called in to assist with the search.

A short time later, officers managed to clear the scene, but no suspicious devices or items were found.

At 12:19 p.m., the division advised that the RCMP had cleared students and staff to return to SRSS and that classes would continue as scheduled for the remainder of the day.

The police reported that a 16-year-old man is a potential suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
