A driver is dead after a vehicle collides with an empty truck on Route 24 in Berkley

Authorities said a driver was killed Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a truck on Route 24 in Berkley.

The Massachusetts State Police Department reported that a vehicle struck an empty truck in the emergency lane of the highway just before 1 p.m. The truck belonged to a nearby crew. The crash occurred on the southbound side of Route 24 in Berkley near mile marker 13.8.

State police said the driver died in the crash.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation closed all lanes while the crash was investigated, state police said.

State police said there was another two-vehicle crash on Route 24 before the fatal crash. Both drivers were taken to nearby hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

State police said the left lane of Route 24 was open in the area of ​​the first crash as of 3:04 p.m. An investigation into this crash is ongoing.
