The LSU football team’s quarterback was involved in a car accident on campus Thursday morning

According to WBRZ News Station, LSU freshman point guard Colin Hurley was injured in a car crash on campus around 2:45 a.m. ET.

Hurley, who had just finished his true freshman campaign for the Tigers after serving a redshirt year, was unresponsive.

WBRZ reports that “Hurley’s Dodge Charger struck a tree at South Quad Drive and Highland Road, near the south gates of the LSU campus.”

According to the preliminary report, Hurley was unresponsive but breathing.

“Officials said Hurley was unresponsive but breathing. The accident report shows that firefighters removed Hurley from the vehicle. he was going in and out of consciousness and had a large wound on his face,” WBRZ states.

The cause of the accident remains unknown, but no injuries were suspected at the time of the accident.

Hurley served as the backup quarterback under Garrett Nussmeier during the 2024 season and is entering his second season in Baton Rouge.

He is currently one of three quarterbacks on the LSU roster heading to Spring Camp.

Garrett Nussmeier: Redshirt senior

LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier revealed in December that he would return to Baton Rouge for the 2025 season with unfinished business in the purple and gold.

Nussmeier, the Tigers’ leading signal-caller in 2024, will look to build on a successful redshirt junior campaign for the Bayou Bengals last fall.

The Lake Charles native bypassed the 2025 NFL Draft, where he had a chance to be selected as a top-five quarterback in April.

Instead, he will return to LSU for his final season of eligibility under Brian Kelly.

This is a monumental decision for Nussmeier as the Tigers retain a cornerstone of the program for one more season.

“This year has been a year of tremendous growth for me,” Nussmeier said after the Oklahoma game. “I said in September that I hoped that by the end of the year I would be a better player than I was then, and I think that confirmed that. Our team got better and better throughout the year, but there were a few things we needed to fix and improve. I’m happy for us and our team, and for me personally, I’ve continued to improve my game and I’m looking forward to continuing that in the offseason.

According to Blake Brockermeyer of CBS Sports, his name is worth keeping an eye on in the 2025 Heisman Trophy race:

“I love his gunslinger mentality and he reminds me a bit of Brett Favre in that respect. He has a big hand and can throw to high windows. I expect him to be surrounded by a solid supporting cast in 2025 and should put up big numbers and on big stages.”

Colin Hurley: Redshirt freshman

LSU quarterback Colin Hurley remains on the Baton Rouge roster after completing his true junior campaign in purple and gold.

After enrolling in early January at just 16 years old, Hurley used his first college season to acclimate himself to his new surroundings.

Hurley turned heads and proved he could throw the ball, giving the Tigers another promising piece in the quarterback room.

Mississippi State transfer quarterback Michael Van Buren went public with his decision to transfer to the LSU Tigers last month after one season in Starkville. After starting his career with the Bulldogs as a true freshman, he is headed to Baton Rouge for the 2025 season.

Van Buren provides LSU with a backup point guard with SEC experience. In 10 appearances as a true freshman in 2024, Van Buren completed 140 of 256 passes for 1,886 yards and 11 touchdowns. He added another five rushing TDs for the Bulldogs.

“When you look at the entire squad, you are making an incredible investment in every respect. You’ve got to look at every position and if Garrett were to go down, you’ve got to have someone there,” Kelly he said this week. “But more importantly, you have to have competition in every position. Michael will be competing with Garrett and we wanted to bring Michael in because he’s someone who started in the SEC.
