A Kiambu family is devastated as their son dies before knowing his KCSE 2024 exam results

• A family from Kimende in Lari is mourning the loss of their son, Samuel Gakahu, who recently sat for the 2024 KCSE examinations.
• Samuel died before learning that he had achieved an impressive B average in his national exams
• The young man suffered from heart disease on December 22, 2024 and died in early January after battling a chronic cough and cold

The Kiambu family of Kimende in Lari is in grief and agony following the death of their dear son who was seeking the 2024 Kenya Secondary School Certificate. Education (KCSE).

The family of KCSE student Samuel Gakahu has narrated how their son died a few weeks ago, just before learning about his exemplary results in the national examinations that were announced two weeks ago.

I’m talking to Kame Televisionthe young student’s mother testified that he developed a heart condition on December 22, 2024, and died in early January before learning that he had earned a B average.

“He was such a good son to me. He loved helping me around the house and during the cesspool. I took him to the hospital when he started having a chronic cough and cold,” his distraught mother said as tears streamed down her face.

Huge hospital bill

In addition to mourning their young son, the family is facing difficult times due to huge hospital bills that have put burial plans on hold.

Their son’s treatment in two weeks amounted to over KSh480,000, which the family is unable to pay.

“SHA only paid a meager KSh13,000. When we asked the national health insurer, we were told they paid a small amount because our patient was in intensive care,” the family said.

The family is now looking for well-wishers to help them cover the bill and bury the young man.

When are the KCSE results 2024 released?

Year 2024 KSE results were officially released by Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba at Mitihani House, South C, Nairobi on Thursday, January 9, 2025.
