Transformative Justice Collective (TJC) said it will discontinue its main website and social media accounts by December 2026, as announced in a statement statement January 21, 2025

The anti-death penalty group was “Declared online location” (DOL) in accordance with the Protection against Online Counterfeiting and Manipulation Act (POFMA) of December 20, 2024.

The declaration is valid for two years until December 20, 2026.

Notice required, must not receive financial or other material benefit from conducting DOL

In December 2024 press releaseThe Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) has clarified that each of TJC’s online platforms meets the criteria for DOL recognition:

  • At least three different false statements of fact were posted on each of the online platforms and are the subject of active POFMA Correction Notices.
  • At least three of these false statements of fact were first made in Singapore on each of TJC’s online platforms in the six months before December 20, 2024.

MDDI clarified that TJC is not required to cease operations as a result of the DOL.

However, each TJC online platform must include a “notice warning viewers that it has been deemed DOL, that it has reported numerous falsehoods, and that viewers should exercise caution when accessing it for informational purposes.”

DOL operators are prohibited from gaining financial or other material benefit from operating DOL to prevent them from profiting from spreading lies in Singapore.

Service providers such as digital advertising agencies and intermediaries must take reasonable steps to ensure that paid content that they post or cause to be posted on TJC’s online platforms is not transmitted within Singapore on those platforms.

Individuals and companies are also prohibited from providing financial support to TJC’s online platforms if they know or have reason to believe that by doing so they will promote the spread of lies in Singapore on those platforms.

Not an easy decision to make: TJC

TJC has decided to temporarily cease operations of DOL platforms through December 2026.

The anti-death penalty group said it was “not an easy decision” and that it was made “with a very heavy heart.”

He promised to resume using the platforms from January 2027 and urged people not to unfollow his account.

“Despite the significant challenges posed by the DOL’s temporary cessation of operations, the Transformative Justice Collective will not stop fighting for a freer and fairer Singapore, albeit on different platforms,” TJC said.

The group received five POFMA guidance on the government’s treatment of death row prisoners and related issues between August and December 2024.
