Tomorrow evening, Wrexham host Birmingham in a top-flight League One clash.

In the build-up to the match, the League One club confirmed the car crash scare in a statement on its website.

It read: “Wrexham AFC can confirm that a first team player was involved in a car accident on his way to training this morning.

“This was a single car accident with no other vehicles involved and local authorities attended the scene quickly.

“The player reported to the club this morning and will undergo further medical examination.”

This morning’s incident is said to have taken place on the grounds of Wrexham Golf Club.

Conditions were very foggy in this area.

McClean is an Ireland international who has made 103 appearances and played in the Premier League for Sunderland and West Brom.

Just yesterday, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson called on the EFL to do more to tackle the abuse McClean regularly suffers from opposition fans.

He said: “Sometimes the level of harassment goes too far and I’m not sure enough is being done about it.

“People are quite quick to jump on players’ backs for crossing the line and referees are quick to give people yellow cards.

“Then I think about what the EFL is doing about the level of abuse Jimmy is experiencing from week to week, and for me it’s definitely not enough.

“But unfortunately I don’t think my words will be enough to change that.”

McClean is Wrexham’s captain and has played 24 of 26 League One games so far this season.

Parkinson’s men go into tomorrow’s clash with Birmingham, who are third in the table, five points behind leaders Blues, who have two games under their belt.

Several celebrity guests are expected to attend the game, including Ryan Reynolds, Rob McElhenney and Tom Brady.
