Quest Motors embroiled in a corruption scandal worth PLN 155,000. dollars in connection with a 56-seat bus – Radio Nehanda

CHINHOYI – Quest Motor Corporation is at the center of a corruption scandal after Vuti Secondary School principal Brain Chigudu was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) for allegedly awarding the company a $155,000 tender to supply a 56-seat bus, without following the appropriate procurement procedures.

Chigudu appeared before Vakayi Magistrate Douglas Chikwekwe at the Chinhoyi Magistrates Court where he was charged with criminal abuse of duty.

According to the allegations, Chigudu directly awarded the contract to Quest Motors even though the company did not respond to the invitation to tender.

The principal was granted a $300 bond and remanded in custody until February 3, 2025.

As part of his bail conditions, Chigudu was ordered not to interfere with state witnesses and banned from visiting Vuti Secondary School until the case is resolved.

In another case, ZACC arrested Wilbert Nyarugwe for allegedly defrauding a local businessman of $10,000.

Nyarugwe posed as a member of the Zanu-PF Central Committee, claiming to have links with Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) commissioner general Regina Chinamasa.

Nyarugwe has reportedly promised to use his influence to resolve the ZIMRA seizure case involving Douglas Muraza’s bus, Shassell Logistics, which was seized in Masvingo in October 2024.

Muraza paid Nyarugwe $10,000, but instead of solving the problem, Nyarugwe disappeared with the funds.

When Muraza received an official demand from ZIMRA to pay ZWG 893,529.59 in customs duties, financial penalties, interest and storage fees, he realized that he had been deceived.

Muraza reported the incident to ZACC, which led to Nyarugwe’s arrest.

Nyarugwe was found in possession of fake Zanu-PF cards and is expected to appear in court on January 22, 2025.
