ACC police say that an armed bandit showed the seller a weapon after escaping from the store

The Athens-Clarke police report shows that the robbery in Athens, which on January 14 led to a shooting of the suspect by the deputy sheriff Clarke, was to start with theft, during which weapons were never produced.

The report published on Thursday contains more details about the robbery that occurred around 13:20 in the Cricket Wireless store at North Avenue.

After the robbery, the suspects escaped by car to the Commerce Road area, where there was a pedestrian pursuit, and the officers said that the deputy shot one of the suspects, identified as 25-year-old Javious Mattox from Athens. Mattox was released from the hospital and is in the prison of Clarke.

The report shows that two men entered the store, one in the mask, but both in hooded sweatshirts, and began to ask the employee about phones and smartwatches.

The report shows that when the employee noticed another customer, both men “ran out of the store” and fled the corner of the building.

The employee called the number 911 and went outside, where another person indicated the black Honda Civic in 2002 in the parking lot, in a jersey covering the license plate.

The report shows that an employee who continued to talk on the phone with the police, took off his shirt and read the dispatcher to the tag.

At that time, both men returned around the building, where one of the suspects raised his shirt to flash with a gun, then entered the car and drove away.

The police immediately chased, which ended at the Commerce Road in Newton Bridge Road, where the pedestrian chase took place.

The Georgia State Investigation Bureau examines this stage of crime. GBI said that when escaping, he noticed a weapon on Mattox. The officer shot him, hitting him.

Both suspects were detained.

The report shows that five items were stolen from the store: a wireless speaker, headphones and three watches with a mobile phone, all worth around $ 380.

The second suspect was identified as Malik Kejuan Tucker, age 21, from Athens. The police report also includes his address in the Haddock commune, located near Milledgeville.

Mattox and Tucker were accused of assaulting with arms in hand, hindering work and having weapons during a crime.
