The court committee, led by the retired Supreme Court judge CR Dash, probing the alleged torture of an army officer and sexual assault on his fiancee at the Bharatpur Police Station in Bhubaneswar last year, ended the investigation on Wednesday.

The commission ended its investigation because it is required to submit a report until February 28, told Subhendra Mohanta, secretary of the court panel.

The state government has created a court committee in order to thoroughly examine the alleged incident in which The army officer was physically attacked and his fiancee molested In custody at the Police Station in Bharatpur during the intervention of September 14, 2024.

Justice Dash was appointed chairman of the committee after widespread indignation throughout the country after the incident.

During the investigation, the Commission was looking for the views of people involved in the statement, receiving over 500 answers. The commission recorded the statements of the army officer, his fiancée, accused police officers and all persons involved in the incident.

The committee also examined witnesses, evidence and statements. The term of the committee was initially expired on January 31. However, it was extended to February 28, 2025.

Answering the question, Mohanty said that the Commission in its report indicates who was responsible for the incident and would suggest the state government to avoid such incidents in the future.

However, the lawyer of the bride of the army officer was looking for time until February 15 to interrogate the accused police officers and 35 witnesses. But the commission could not allow it because of time restrictions, said Mohanty.

The incident occurred when the army officer and his fiancee went to the Bharatpur police station to lodge a complaint about the frenzy.

Instead, they had a dispute with the police, after which the duo was allegedly tortured in custody, which caused serious controversy. At least five police people were suspended in connection with this incident.
