At least 10 people dead and 30 injured after someone drove into crowd in New Orleans

At least 10 people were killed and 30 injured after a passenger in a car plowed into a crowd in New Orleans during New Year’s Eve celebrations, authorities said.

The incident reportedly occurred around 3 a.m. local time at the popular Bourbon and Canal Street area.

Law enforcement officials reported this Associated Press that the suspect in the incident died as a result of a shootout with police. According to the police, two officers were also injured in the incident, but their condition is stable.

“This was very intentional behavior,” New Orleans Police Commissioner Anne Kirkpatrick said. “This man tried to run over as many people as he could.”

The FBI said it was investigating the incident as an act of terrorism and was working closely with local and state officials.

The White House said President Joe Biden was also briefed on the incident and called on New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell to provide full federal support.

The potential motive is unclear at this time.
