Police say an Avondale teacher tried to meet a teenage girl for sex

AVONDALE, AZ (AZ Family) — A West Valley High School teacher faces child sex crime charges after police say he was caught soliciting sex with a 15-year-old girl but was actually talking to an undercover agent.

Authorities say 28-year-old Domenik Brewer is facing one count of child sex trafficking after he was arrested during an operation last week.

Court documents show Avondale police conducted the operation with the West Valley Sex Trafficking Task Force.

Police said a decoy ad was placed on a website known for child trafficking and prostitution at the time.

Authorities say the ad depicted a 15-year-old girl and included language that suggested she was a child. Investigators say Brewer texted the number listed in the ad saying he was 27, to which the agent discovered he was 15.

After the agent said she was underage, Brewer reportedly said, “Oh, wow,” and later added, “I guess I’ll give it a try,” before asking how much money the girl wanted.

Court documents say Brewer talked about performing oral sex and showed interest in “full-service services.” Brewer then agreed to pay $150 and continued to talk about whether a condom would be used and continued the conversation, suggesting he was talking to a teenage girl and a high school student.

Detectives linked the phone number to Brewer and waited for him to arrive after he said he would arrive in a black Volkswagen. He was arrested after arriving at the agreed meeting place.

After his arrest, Brewer said he coached the Phoenix Suns Youth basketball team and that it played in multiple areas, not just at the Footprint Center. He also said the detective was a permanent substitute teacher at West Point High School in Avondale, documents state.

Authorities say he admitted during questioning that he knew he had visited a website that led him to escort offers, knew the girl in the ad was 15 and that they had agreed to the contract, documents show.

Detectives unlocked his cell phone with permission, showing text messages he had with the decoy, and later called his wife, telling her he had “screwed it up” and had been arrested for child sex trafficking and that he had tried to have sex with a 15-year-old in the summer.

Brewer was found in possession of $160 at the time of his arrest. He has been in jail since then on $50,000 bail.

Arizona’s family reached out to the Tolleson Union High School District for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
