AUSTINTOWN — A Youngstown man is accused of assaulting several police officers during a domestic dispute at his home.

Damon Williams, 36, of Brentwood Avenue, is charged with multiple felonies – all of which were handed over to a Mahoning County grand jury Tuesday from the Austintown courthouse in Mahoning County – as well as misdemeanors.

Offenses include assaulting a peace officer, obstructing police and drug possession. Court records also show the burglary charge was dismissed. The misdemeanor charges include assault and resisting arrest.

An Austintown police report shows officers responded to a domestic violence complaint at a home on Main Street. Police found children cleaning up the mess in the kitchen while a man and woman were shouting at each other. Police tried to get the man to come outside and talk to them, but he told police he needed to get his things. The report states that when the woman went to her bedroom, he took several items. The man then followed her.

The report says he made his way, grabbing several personal items before catching up to the woman between her bed and the wall. The report says the officer got between them and took the man outside.

The report says the officer tried to force the man into a chair several times before he stood up, pushed him – causing the officer to fall on his back and lose his breath, and bruise his hip – before running through yards and across the street. side of Westminster Avenue.

Other officers arrived on scene and pursued the man and, according to the report, caught him attempting to climb a fence along Edgehill Avenue.

The report said multiple officers tried to take the man to the ground and handcuff him, and used an electric stun gun at least twice. Police searched him and found a bag in his pocket that appeared to contain drugs, which was later confirmed to be cocaine, the report said.

As police took him to a police car, the man refused to identify himself and vomited in the street. The report shows he was taken to the Mercy Health Emergency Department in Austintown for treatment.

The woman told police who the man was and that he was her ex-boyfriend. She said they don’t live together. She told police she picked him up and when they arrived at the home, they began arguing, the report said. She told police the man began pressuring her, asking for money and car keys, and when she refused, he grabbed a pair of scissors and said he was going to slash her tires.

She told police there was a fight and she was cut with scissors, the report says. She then locked the man in the house. She told police he then pushed the air conditioner out of the bedroom window and climbed through it, the report said. The report says she told police he punched her in the face and they then searched the entire house.

She said the fight ended when she threw cold grease in his face and called 911. The report states that teenage children were cleaning up the grease when police arrived.

The report shows Williams also had active removal warrants out of Youngstown, Struthers and Boardman.

Williams first testified about the allegations on October 23. He remains in the Mahoning County Jail awaiting the grand jury’s decision.

Court records show two other indictments were also filed against Williams before a grand jury in Canfield on Monday, where he was charged with failure to comply and obstructing police in connection with the April 16 incident. Misdemeanor charges of reckless driving and failure to maintain marked lanes were dismissed.
