Geyser – now 22 – was 12 years old when she and a classmate lured their friend into the woods in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and stabbed her 19 times to please the fictional internet character Slender Man – in a case that still generates national headlines, according to authorities.

The victim, Payton Leutner, suffered life-threatening injuries but ultimately survived. Geyser and her co-killer Anissa Weier were charged in adult court with attempted first-degree intentional homicide.

Geyser was convicted of the charges against him, but found not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect and sentenced to 40 years in psychiatric prison.

In a Waukesha courtroom Thursday, three psychologists who worked closely with Geyser testified that she was prepared for supervised release.

“At this point I am in favor of or support her petition to be fired. In particular, I do not believe that she currently poses a significant risk of significant harm to herself, others, or property damage,” psychologist Brooke Lundbohm testified. judge over Zoom.

Lundbohm, who testified under the subpoena, said Geyser’s mental condition has improved significantly since his 2021 suicide attempt. She may be “extremely self-critical” and “low self-esteem,” but she is “well-spoken” and “extremely bright,” Lundbohm said.

Stacie Leutner, Payton Leutner’s mother, said in a statement to ABC News ahead of Thursday’s hearing: “Morgan Geyser has withdrawn her request for release twice. Her application was recently rejected. We are confident that the court system will make a decision that will keep society and my daughter safe.”

Lundbohm said if released, Geyser would live in a group home.

Kenneth Robbins, another psychologist called as a witness, said the geyser “has a lot of potential” for reintegration into society. She discussed future goals, expressing interest in working as a librarian and ultimately as a therapist for people suffering from substance use disorders, he said.

Robbins said Geyser was diagnosed with schizophrenia after the stabbing, but has not shown psychotic symptoms over the past two years and has been able to come off antipsychotic medication. He said she still shows symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and autism, but has not shown any signs of suicidal thoughts since the 2021 attempt.

Psychologist Deborah Collins testified that Geyser does not have “unrealistic goals” for what her life would be like after her release, saying she understands she would have to live in a nursing home and “would take whatever she could get in terms of employment.”

Collins said Geyser understands that as a condition of her supervised release, she will be required to wear an ankle monitor.

“She wants to, I think, start a life outside of the institution and she realizes that she’s going to be subject to a whole series of expectations and rules and what might happen if she breaks them,” Collins said.

The interrogation was to last until Friday.
