Musk, who was initially a supporter of OpenAI, reacted to the whistleblower’s mother’s statement in an interview that her son did not like the fact that the creator of ChatGPT had become a for-profit company.

“The reason he joined OpenAI was because he believed that artificial intelligence would help humanity. Initially, he was very impressed by OpenAI because it was a non-profit organization,” the whistleblower’s mother said in an interview with Mario Nawfal in X.

The mother said that as the case became public, her son’s concerns began to deepen.

“That’s when his concerns started to surface and he started asking himself questions,” she said.

Musk responded by sharing a video of the interview with several exclamation points.

Founder of Tesla and SpaceX he spoke against OpenAI converting to a for-profit company when the Sam Altman-led venture went public.

Elon Musk previously supported his mother’s call for an investigation

This isn’t the first time Elon Musk has supported his mother over the death of an OpenAI whistleblower.

The 26-year-old technician was found dead in his San Francisco apartment last year after expressing opposition to OpenAI’s policies. A doctor ruled his death a suicide, and San Francisco police stated that “no evidence of foul play was found during the initial investigation.” However, the mother of the 26-year-old Indian-origin technician called on the FBI to launch an investigation in a post on X, casting doubt on police’s conclusion that her son’s death was a suicide.

Musk, who also owns X, reacted to the post and wrote: “This doesn’t look like suicide.”

In an October interview with The New York Times, the whistleblower accused OpenAI use of data covered by copyright, claiming that it violates the law. He also told the website that “technologies like ChatGPT are harming the Internet.”
