A Hattiesburg man died in a hit-and-run crash near the U.S. 49/MS-42 intersection

FORREST COUNTY, Miss. (WDAM) – A Hattiesburg man died early Thursday morning when his vehicle collided with a pair of utility wires near the U.S. Highway 49/State Route 42 intersection and rolled multiple times.

Forrest County Coroner Lisa Klem said Thursday afternoon that the victim was 31-year-old Bartolo Crisostomo Hernandez.

According to the Rawls Springs Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, just after midnight Thursday, first responders responded to a call regarding a crash on Mississippi 42 near the intersection with U.S. 49.

Upon arrival, they found the vehicle standing off the road with serious damage. After gaining access through the rear window, it was discovered that Hernandez had died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol was controlling traffic, and units from the Forrest County Sheriff’s Office and AA Ambulance were also on scene.
