A Singaporean motorcyclist has died in an accident on the Second Link highway

SINGAPORE – A Singaporean motorcyclist died in a road accident on the Second Link Expressway on January 12, Malaysian police said.

Family and friends identified the motorcyclist as Irwan Ariffin, 49.

He was going south towards Singapore on the highway around 4:30 p.m. when he collided with the rear of a car, causing the car to hit another car, said Iskandar Puteri Police Chief M. Kumarasan.

The motorcyclist then fell on the side of the highway, suffering serious neck injuries.

He died of his injuries on the way to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru. Both drivers were not injured.

His body was occupied returned to his residence in Singapore, where a fellowship was held on January 13 with the participation of family and friends.

Mr Irwan’s cousin said he left the world doing what he loved most – horse riding.

He was a kind soul and a “great cousin” who will always be loved and remembered by those who knew him, Ms. Sheila Zack wrote on Facebook.

Numerous friends and family also paid tribute to Irwan online before he was laid to rest.

A video of the aftermath of the accident was posted online, prompting a request for information. You can see a fallen motorcycle and photos of two damaged cars.

The latest fatal accident follows a series of incidents involving Singaporean motorcyclists in Malaysia.
