The suicide case of a farmer from Adilabad is closed, the bank is waiving the unpaid loan

The Adilabad city police have completed investigation in the case of 50-year-old Jadav Devirao, a resident of Bela Mandal in Adilabad, whose body was found in the Adilabad branch of ICICI Bank on Saturday.

According to Adilabad Superintendent of Police Gausha Alam, the farmer took his own life due to family reasons. “He had family problems and was stressed about his wife’s upcoming surgery. Bank records show that he had taken a loan of around ₹3.5 lakh under the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loan scheme in 2019 and had since then made regular repayments until October 2024, when he failed to repay installment For this purpose, the bank has launched an automatic call reminder,” the official explained.

The official added that call records and CCTV footage were carefully analyzed and no signs of harassment by bank officials were found. Devirao availed the loan for the treatment of his wife, who was suffering from chronic kidney disease. Since the first surgery was unsuccessful, the family prepared for a second surgery.

The police closed the case, citing suicide as the cause. After the incident, the bank wrote off the deceased’s outstanding loan for humanitarian reasons, the official said.
