The police are looking for the driver who caused the fatal accident

Newport News, Va. – The Newport News Police Department is searching for the driver involved in Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run crash. At approximately 6:15 a.m., officers responded to Harpersville Road and Jefferson Ave., where they found 74-year-old Dennis Gene Clarkson unresponsive in the roadway.

Initial investigations revealed that Mr Clarkson was riding his bicycle when he was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene. Mr. Clarkson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities are asking for information from the driver of a white sedan who was seen traveling west on Harpersville Road just before the crash. Anyone with information about the vehicle or incident is asked to submit tips anonymously via P3Tips.com or by calling 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.

Tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,500 for information leading to an arrest in this case. Police released the video in hopes of identifying the driver.
