“He gave me a blow to my head”

The man was arrested for public nuisance after he allegedly attacked the priest in the Holy Spirit Church located at 248 Upper Thomson Road on February 9 in the morning.

The police received a call to help at 10.35, said police forces in Singapore in a Facebook post.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the 22-year-old Singapore Chinese allegedly attacked Father Cary Chan after the service during dispersion.

The priest said Channel Newsasia that the blow knocked down his glasses and surprised him.

“He gave me a hard blow to my head … I feel a bit shocked, I did not expect a hard blow to come,” said Father Khan, who described the man as an ordinary church who has special needs and is partly blind.

Someone removed the man’s backpack from the church, and he upset him, according to the priest, who said: “He was very bad and demanded that he recover the bag.”

Shortly after the bag returned, the man hit Father Khan. The man was immediately detained by the church protection staff.

The man’s possession was not found weapons and was handed over to police officers. Will be directed to the Mental Health Institute for further assessment.

The police said: “We would like to remind society about refraining from speculation during investigations.”

The Roman Catholic archdiocese in Singapore said in a Facebook post: “The priest participated in doctors, and in addition to light swelling on his face is safe and good.”
