Forget about goblins, ghosts and ghouls: if you work for a campaign Vice President Kamala Harristhe scariest sight in the run-up to Halloween was her top deputies taking the microphone. As precious seconds ticked away, the final week of the campaign was marred by errors, missteps and meltdowns — all from people who were ostensibly aiding the Democratic effort.

Here are three examples.

First, when Harris delivered her closing remarks focused on unity, President Biden he described half the country as garbage. You can’t make this up. Tucked away in the White House, just steps away from Harris’s incredibly choreographed speech on the Ellipse, Biden was – inexplicably – participating in a public Zoom call when he made this remark that has taken over the political debate: “The only garbage floating there is his (Trump) supporters.”

THE ‘GARBAGE’ CAMPAIGN: WHY ERRORS AND SOLUTIONS CAN LOSE THE RESULT

Why an 81-year-old man who was removed from the race amid widespread concerns about his age and abilities spoke at the same time as the person who had promised to replace him remains a mystery. At the end of the week, the White House changed the text of the article official record to quell the firestorm, but the damage was done.

The incident came days after an Axios report titled “Harris Stiffly Defends Biden,” detailing Biden’s failed attempts to campaign for his replacement. According to reports, the Harris campaign’s response was: “We will contact you.” It’s easy to see why we represent half of administrations with approval ratings in the 30s.

Biden’s presence undermines Harris’ slogan of a “new way forward,” a message that was further muddied later in the week by the failure of the second alternative: former president Bill Clinton telling rallygoers in Michigan that the economy was better under Trump.

They say a “gaffe” is when a politician tells the truth, and to be fair, Clinton’s argument is supported by polling data. According to A., seven out of ten voters evaluate the economy negatively Fox News Poll. It is also by far the most important issue, where Trump has a clear eight-point lead over Harris. Still, it’s not a helpful comment for a candidate trying to connect on basic bread-and-butter issues.

MARK CUBAN TRYS TO “EXPLAIN” COMMENT REGARDING A “VIEW” THAT IS CONSIDERED AS AN INSULT TOWARDS PRO-TRUMP WOMEN

This was not the first slip-up of the 42nd president. Earlier this month, he appeared to be critical lack of security on the southern border, creating another viral moment and political headache for the Harris campaign. A once-in-a-generation political talent in his prime, Clinton, 78, is a shell of his former self. Eight years ago, when he was pitching for his wife, it was clear that he had lost a few miles per hour because of his fastball. Currently, he struggles to get the ball over the plate.

Bill Clinton campaign for Harris-Walz

Former U.S. President Bill Clinton speaks during a Get Out-The-Vote rally in support of Vice President and Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris on the first day of early voting in North Carolina in Durham, North Carolina, October 17, 2024.

Finally, not to be outdone was Mark Cuban, the billionaire Harris supporter who accused Trump of not surrounding himself with “strong, intelligent women.” The backlash was swift and severe, and Cuban was forced to apologize in a Friday morning social media post.

Like Clinton, this wasn’t the first time Cuban had interfered with the campaign message. He (correctly) described the proposed Biden-Harris tax scheme on unrealized capital gains as an “economy killer,” claiming he was furious when he found out about it.

The Cuban’s presence on the trail is intended to reassure voters that Harris is not one a wild-eyed California liberal her opponents portray her as. Why would one of America’s most recognizable and successful entrepreneurs sign up for a campaign promoting socialist-style redistributive policies that demonize success? Instead, the Cuban became history, burning up valuable time as the race entered its final weekend.

When she became her party’s nominee, Kamala Harris faced the unenviable task of introducing herself to voters, presenting herself as an agent of change, separating herself from an unpopular incumbent and going toe-to-toe with one of the most dynamic political figures of modern times – and doing it all in a three-month period. time window. It was never easy, even when everything was going well.

If Harris fails next week, there will be plenty of finger-pointing and blame. The blunders of her “supporters” will be high on that list.
