Mike Williams’ tenure with the New York Jets may not be as close to ending as it seemed after the team acquired Davante Adams.

According to ESPN Jeremy Fowlerthere is a “chance” that Williams will remain with the Jets beyond the Nov. 5 trade deadline now that Allen Lazard has been placed on injured reserve.

After the Jets traded for Adams on Oct. 15, Williams missed his first practice that week because of what the team he said there were personal reasons. Was back the next day at their facility, even though they didn’t spend much time working in the field.

Talks about football Mike Florio reported that on the same day as the Adams trade, Williams was being purchased by the Jets.

It made sense that he would be the odd man out if a trade were to occur, as Adams and Lazard already have established chemistry with Aaron Rodgers when they were Green Bay Packers teammates.

Although they were grunts that teams were calling the Jets about Garrett Wilson, it wouldn’t make sense for them to make a deal with him unless they received a ridiculous offer that was too good to refuse.

Lazard was placed injured reserve before Thursday’s game against the Houston Texans. He suffered a chest injury during the Jets’ Week 7 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. The 28-year-old will miss at least three more games before he can be activated via IR.

Williams has had more game time in the last two games with Lazard unavailable, but he hasn’t made much of a difference. The 30-year-old played 41 snaps against the Texans – his most since Week 5 – but finished with just one catch for six yards on two targets.

The Jets are only paying Williams $1.3 million with a base salary, so it wouldn’t take much effort to move him if they wanted to go that route. However, Lazard’s absence for at least the next three games could make him more valuable to them than what they would get in return.
