A Mississippi mother was arrested this week after her 10-year-old daughter overdosed on prescription drugs as part of the duo’s suicide pact.

Following her arrest in Alabama, Brittney Leigh Hensley’s bail has been set at $500,000. – reports the weekly Ocean Springs Record.

Investigators determined that the mother and daughter made the pact on July 6 while staying at the Studio 6 Motel in Ocean Springs.

Officers were called to the hotel just before 6:30 p.m. in response to reports of an overdose.

Police say Hensley’s daughter had already swallowed a slew of pills before she began to have second thoughts about ending her own life.

Hensley was reportedly prescribed pills.

When the police arrived, the girl was unconscious. Police did not release her name.

Hensley fled Mississippi shortly after her daughter was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Knowing she had family there, detectives tracked Hensley to Huntsville, Alabama, where she was arrested on October 14.

She was extradited to Mississippi a few days ago. The police charged her with child abuse causing serious bodily harm.

Police say Hensley told them she also took pills on July 6, but did not specify how much she took them or for how long, according to the Weekly Record.

Doctors expressed hope that Hensley’s daughter would make a full recovery from her overdose.
