Bay College is hosting a family weekend to lift the spirits of student-athletes

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) – Bay College students and their families spent the weekend together on campus.

The college hosted a family weekend event and invited families to a Saturday tailgate party to eat burgers and sausages.

Bay College athletics director Matt Johnson says the event ties in with the start of the men’s and women’s basketball seasons. He says it’s a chance for busy athletes to spend time with their families.

“We felt it was important to have as many family members and loved ones as possible come out to watch us play and just set the tone for the rest of the season,” Johnson said.

Johnson says student-athletes don’t have much time to go home on the weekends because of their athletic schedules. So it’s great to make time for them and their families on campus.

In his opinion, this event is also an opportunity to meet other families.
