A shocking poll shows Harris leading Trump in Iowa by a 4-point margin for the vice president

A shocking poll shows Harris leading Trump in Iowa by a 4-point margin for the vice president

Vice President Kamala Harris is ahead of former President Donald Trump by three points in the latest Des Moines Register-sponsored poll conducted in Iowa, three days before the election.

The shocking poll showed a seven-point change from Trump to Harris in September, when he had a four-point lead over the vice president in the same poll (47% to 43%).

“It’s hard for anyone to say they expected this,” pollster J. Ann Selzer, president of Selzer & Co., which conducted the poll, told the Journal on Saturday. “She has clearly moved into the leadership position.”

Questionnaire conducted October 28-31, and Harris’ lead is within 3.4% of error.

Still, the poll appears to be out of line. Another survey from Emerson College released Saturday showed Trump with a 10-point lead (53% to 43%), and he maintains a respectable lead in other polls.

According to the Des Moines Register, the Des Moines Register/Mediacom poll, which measures support in the Hawkeye State, is highly regarded across the country, and its final results reflect the state’s 2016 and 2020 election results.

A 2016 poll showed Trump with a seven-point lead over Hillary Clinton, and a 2020 poll showed the same lead over President Biden.

Iowa, which is not considered a swing state, is geographically close to the Rust Belt swing state states of Pennsylvania and Michigan and borders Wisconsin.

The same poll conducted in June showed Trump had a significant 18-point lead over Biden before he dropped out of the race in July after a shaky debate performance.

According to the newspaper, the Nov. 2 poll shows Harris increasing her support among women in a race with a historic gender gap as the vice president has made the issue of abortion at the center of her campaign.

The remaining 9% of respondents said they would vote for another candidate, were not sure who they would vote for or did not plan to vote. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who withdrew from the race as an independent candidate and supported Trump, polled 3% of the vote.
