Hong Kong’s prison chief vows to fearlessly oppose violence after an attack on an officer

Hong Kong’s Correctional Services Department (CSD) will fearlessly oppose all forms of violent intimidation in the wake of the recent alleged gang attack at the officer, her commissioner said after visiting the injured worker.

Commissioner of Correctional Services Wong Kwok-hing condemned Sunday’s brutal attack during a visit to the United Christian Hospital in Kwun Tong, while confirming that the officer’s condition was stable.

“CSD has strongly condemned the unlawful violence and we believe that the attackers have flagrantly questioned the rule of law and undermined social order,” he said.

“Every colleague in the Department of Correctional Services is a professional law enforcement officer and will never fear any form of violent threats.

“The CSD will maintain its position and act in accordance with the law to ensure order and discipline in the institution.

Wong, however, refused to clarify whether the officer was attacked because of a personal dispute with his attackers, saying the case was still under investigation and it was inappropriate to reveal further details.
