A married woman ends her life, a complaint against her husband

Bengaluru: A 34-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide at her home in Cotton animalin central Bengaluru, due to a marital dispute. The case came to light on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Father Bhanu Priya N., a resident of the first floor of a building on SM Lane, Cottonpet, while her in-laws lived on the second floor.
Citing preliminary investigation, police said Priya may have committed suicide on Friday evening. The next morning, her brother-in-law wanted to feed the dog, so he went to the first floor and found that Priya had not opened the door. He knocked on the door, thinking she was still sleeping. When there was no response, he suspected something was wrong and called his brother Murali Mohan, who along with his parents and son had gone to Malur in Kolar district, and informed him that Priya was not answering the phone.
With his permission, with the help of neighbors, he broke down the door and found her hanging. He then notified the police. Priya was married to Mohan for 16 years. Priya’s mother Lakshmidevamma, a resident of Bagepalli in Chikkaballapura district, in her complaint to the police, stated that she suspected that Mohan and his parents might have killed Priya. She further alleged that Mohan had been harassing Priya for dowry for over a decade. Both the families held several compromise meetings, but Mohan continued to harass her.
A senior police officer said that under Art. 108 Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (abetment to suicide) a case was registered against Mohan and his parents. Mohan runs an electrical shop on the ground floor of the same building.
