Two people are dead and seven others injured in a multi-vehicle crash at Wattle Flat, south of Adelaide

Two women were killed and several others injured in a multi-vehicle crash on the Fleurieu Peninsula on Monday afternoon.

Just after noon, a truck and multiple cars were involved on Main South Road in Wattle Flat, south of Adelaide.

Two women who were traveling in the back of one of the cars died from their injuries.

A 44-year-old woman died on the spot, the second woman died later in hospital.

Seven other people were injured in the crash, some of them in critical condition.

The police and emergency services received a report of an accident involving a truck and several passenger cars on Monday around 12:15.

Police say the truck and trailer collided with three vehicles: a black Ford sedan, a silver Ford sedan and a white ute.

The 43-year-old driver of the silver Ford was taken to hospital in critical condition.

A 14-year-old passenger was also taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the ute, a 48-year-old man from Hay Flat, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

The driver of the black Ford, a 38-year-old woman, and her two passengers, a 45-year-old man and a 10-year-old girl, were taken to hospital.

However, police say their injuries are not life-threatening.

The 35-year-old truck driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

A Victor Harbor man has been arrested and charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and four counts of causing injury by dangerous driving.

Police say the investigation is ongoing and any witnesses should contact Crime Stoppers.

These are the 74th and 75th fatalities on South Australian roads this year.
