2-year-old taken to hospital, driver dies after shooting in Hartford

HARTFORD, Conn. (WFSB) – A 22-year-old driver died and a 2-year-old was hospitalized after a drive-by shooting in Hartford.

The homicide is said to have occurred in the area of Pleasant Street at Main Street around 4:18 p.m

Upon arrival, officers found traces of almost twenty shell casings in the streets and a car severely damaged by gunfire.

The driver and a 2-year-old boy were stopped at a traffic light on Pleasant Street when a car pulled up next to them and began shooting.

The driver, identified as Dayvon Comeaux of Hartford, was unresponsive and suffering from gunshot wounds.

Shots were fired right next to Dunkin Park and the prep school.

“Lots of scales. Very cheeky in daylight, during rush hour in the city center. Very brazen,” said Hartford Police Lt. Aaron Boisvert.

The man driving the car was taken to hospital, where he later died.

A two-year-old boy traveling in the back seat was unharmed, although the bullet hole was inches from his head.

“It appears that the bullet hole that almost hit the baby went through the rear of the car. “I thank God again that the baby was not hit,” Boisvert said.

The boy was transported to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center for observation.

It was determined that the child was the victim’s son.

The suspect who fired the shots fled the scene. Police are actively trying to track down the alleged perpetrator of the shooting.

The suspect’s vehicle was recovered shortly after the murder in Torrington.

The Hartford Police Department’s Major Crimes and Crime Scene Unit handled the investigation.

Police say they are working to download surveillance footage from the area.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police at 860-722-8477.

This is the sixteenth homicide this year in the city. This time last year, there were over 30 homicides in Hartford.
