What Georgia voters should know before going to the polls

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – More than 90 counties in the Peach State, including Muscogee County, had voter turnout above 50 percent during early voting. With Election Day tomorrow, we’ve prepared some important reminders for voters heading to the polls.

There are 25 precincts in Muscogee County and voters should know which one to go to. Additionally, “campaigning is prohibited” within 50 feet of voting precincts, which includes wearing T-shirts or other paraphernalia with a candidate’s name on it.

“The polling stations will be open on Tuesday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please bring photo ID with you,” said Nancy Boren, Muscogee County Director of Elections and Registration. “It must be a government ID – one of the approved IDs, or a driver’s license, passport, military ID or ID.”

Boren emphasizes that voters coming to the polls cannot wear clothes with the name of any candidate. If any problems arise while voting, voters can express their concerns by contacting the elections office or the Secretary of State’s office. He also emphasizes that it is not allowed to distribute food and water to voters. “So you don’t want to hand it out to people standing in line; you want to be more than 50 feet from the voting location,” Boren said.

It mentions that there will be a security officer present at each polling station. “We have safety plans in place; We have been coordinating with local law enforcement for weeks for this big day, so we will be ready for it,” Boren said.

If you get in line by 7pm on election night, you will have the opportunity to vote. “At 7 p.m., when voting ends, we place the election commissioner at the end of the line. Anyone who stands in line in front of an electoral commission employee at 7 p.m. can cast their vote.”

Boren assures that law enforcement will be present in each precinct tomorrow during voting hours.
