2 people killed, 1 injured – 51-year-old man goes on a stabbing spree in New York

New York, United States:

A man committed a fatal knife attack in New York City on Monday, killing two people and seriously injuring a third, police and the mayor said.

Police have released a photo of the suspected attack weapon – a large, bloody kitchen knife – but have not yet commented on any possible motive for the triple slashings.

“Two people have lost their lives, one is fighting for his life,” New York Mayor Eric Adams said at a press conference.

“We have someone in custody and we are not looking for any additional suspects.”

Police said the suspect first attacked in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood on the city’s West Side, attacking a man outside a construction site around 8:22 a.m.

The 36-year-old victim later died.

The attacker then moved through the city and two hours later attacked a man fishing in the East River, killing the 68-year-old.

At 10:55 a.m., the suspect attacked a 36-year-old woman near the United Nations headquarters in Manhattan.

The suspect is 51 years old, has been arrested eight times and was arrested near the United Nations, where he was armed with two kitchen knives, detectives said.
