Billy Napier apologizes for bench-clearing brawl after win over FSU

The Florida State Seminoles they finished the season 2-10, losing 31-11 to rival Florida. Emotions run high during any rivalry, but the Florida vs. Florida State is a particularly intense and historic game. After the loss, the Florida Ppayers planted a flag in midfield, which sparked a bench clearing brawl that involved everyone, including staff members.

Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier immediately addressed incident during his postgame press conference, calling his team’s actions “embarrassing” to him and the program and apologizing for the way his players represented the university. He also announced that consequences would be brought against those involved.

“Obviously what happened at the end of the game is not what we wanted the show to be, it’s embarrassing to me and it distracts from a really well-played football game,” Napier said of the scrimmage. “I want to apologize on behalf of the entire organization just for the way we represented the university there. We shouldn’t have done this and we won’t do it in the future. There will be consequences for everyone involved. Unfortunately, we are faced with a distraction that is, once again, inexcusable.”

During the brawl, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell became enraged, picking up a flag and throwing it across the field. Many fans complained throughout the season that Norvell didn’t show enough passion, and they were happy to see the same excitement return that filled the ACC Championship Team just a season ago.

Although FSU has won the last two matchups against Florida, the tough loss to them this year was especially painful for the team because of Florida State’s record and the way they played on Saturday night. The ‘Noles will need to reset and reload as the early signing period is quickly coming to an end.
