The government has established a “special cell” to protect the history of the July-August mass revolution.

The decision was formalized in an order issued today (October 28) by the Cabinet Division.

The special cell will be headed by a ten-member team, headed by an official in the rank of additional secretary or joint secretary.

“In order to preserve the history of the student and people’s revolution of July and August, finalize the complete list of martyrs and wounded, provide medical care to the injured and help their families, this ‘special cell related to mass uprising’ has been established under the Health Services Division based on the decision of the meeting advisory council, which was held on October 17,” the order reads.

The members of the cell are student representatives Abdullah Salehin Ayon and Cynthia Jahan Ayesha and one representative of the Press Information Department (PID) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

According to the office’s order, the special unit will support injured people in providing proper medical care in hospitals and help the families of martyrs and the injured. In addition, it will help the Ministry of Health arrange treatment abroad, if necessary, for seriously injured people.

The special cell will also help create documentaries or information films about the July-August Revolution, verify media reports on this matter and take corrective actions if false information is found. The cell will issue protest notes to provide accurate information.

Funds for the cell’s activities will come from subsidies granted by the Finance Department to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, with the Finance Department providing the necessary funds.

The Cabinet Secretary and Senior Secretary, Health Services Department will regularly supervise the activities of the special unit, as directed by the office.

Earlier, on August 15, the Department of Health Services established a committee to develop a policy for treating those injured during the uprising and helping the families of martyrs, as well as preparing a complete list of the identities of martyrs and the wounded.
