42-year-old man killed by ‘attack dog’ during woman’s arraignment in east London

The Metropolitan Police said a 42-year-old man has died after being attacked by a dog in east London.

Officers were called to Shirley Road, Stratford, at 4.53am on Wednesday after receiving reports that a man had been seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital, where he later died. His family has been informed and an autopsy will be conducted in due course, police said.

Leanne McDonnell, 32, of Shirley Road, Stratford, was charged with having a dog getting out of control causing injury resulting in death.

She was also accused of failing, as the person responsible for the animal, to ensure its welfare and to take care of the fighting dog.

McDonnell was also charged with three counts of possessing an out-of-control dog that did not cause injury in connection with a separate incident that occurred on November 18.

The Metropolitan Police said she was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The police caught the dog that was involved in the incident.
