A suspect has been charged over a shooting in west Birmingham that injured two people, including an 18-month-old girl.

Police announced Friday that 21-year-old Alex Dubose is charged with attempted murder, second-degree assault and two counts of discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle.

Birmingham Police were notified at 6.45pm on Sunday, November 17. that the girl was at Children’s of Alabama. She was brought there in a private vehicle.

Initially, police believed the girl was caught in the crossfire of a shooting while she was riding in a vehicle.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said further investigation determined the shooting occurred at the 5-Way gas station at 4800 Eighth Ave.

Fitzgerald said the man – now identified as Dubose – fired shots at the vehicle in which the girl was traveling.

Police discovered that a second victim – an adult male – was also injured in the same incident. He was in a separate vehicle and was also not the intended target.

He was taken to UAB Hospital.

Dubose was arrested on Tuesday by the police crime reduction team.

“Detectives believed he was shooting at an adult member of the victim’s family who was in the vehicle with the victim,” Fitzgerald said.

Dubose was booked into the Jefferson County Jail with bail set at $135,000.
