Kolkata couple summoned after molestation complaint; Cross-complaint by the attackers

Kolkata: Two weeks after a complaint of harassment and assault was lodged by a group of residents following a protest against drinking in public places, a couple from Sree Colony in Netaji Nagar was summoned to the police station after 9 p.m. for interrogation in a counter-attack. complaint filed by the attackers.
According to the couple, the trouble started late in the evening on November 23 when they protested against a group of neighbors who were allegedly shouting and causing a commotion in front of their house. “This group of young boys often drink outside in front of our house and cause a ruckus. On November 23, they shouted and abused each other. My husband asked them not to do this because my mother-in-law, screenwriter-4th pancreatic cancer patient, was extremely sick that day. The boys – all aged between 20 and 22 – kicked and punched my husband. When I came to his rescue, they pushed me and tried to touch my private parts,” said a woman who works in a private company.
The woman said she filed a complaint at Netaji Nagar Police Station the next day and an FIR was started. “The police made us write the letter six times before they finally accepted it. They visited the neighbors the next day, but since then there has been no response from them. We almost forgot about it until a police officer delivered a summons to our home on Saturday – while we were at work – asking us to face an investigation as part of a counter-complaint filed by the attackers,” she said. “I couldn’t understand why they called us to the police station after 9 p.m. on Sunday? However, we will obey the law and meet with the police,” she added.
TOI also spoke to the youth, including the two boys named FIR, and their family members, who in turn accused the couple of abusing them and beating them up in an inebriated state. “They cause trouble every day. On November 23, we received news that one of our relatives was sick and we were talking about it when the couple broke in and abused us. When we asked them to leave, the man attacked the boys. He even attacked our house the next day and broke our window,” said the sister of one of the boys named FIR.
The second boy TOI spoke to said he had filed an application with the GD, but it was only when he came to know that the couple had lodged an FIR that they too lodged an FIR on November 25. However, both boys stressed that the cops had not questioned them yet.
Netaji Nagar police station officials said they called the couple to the station for investigation as a complaint had been lodged against them too. When asked why they did not call the couple all these days and why the other party was not questioned, the police refused to provide further details.
