Magwi County man arrested after his wife committed suicide

Police in Magwi County have arrested a man after his wife committed suicide by consuming an unnamed poison in Owinykibul area on Sunday

Eyewitnesses claim that a 23-year-old woman committed suicide after consuming poison following a domestic dispute.

Magwi County Chief Inspector of Police, Lieutenant Colonel Paul Lowi Iko, told Radio Tamazuj that the suspect has been detained for further investigation.

One person from Owinykibul had an argument with his wife, as a result of which the woman took poison and died. Her family then attacked the man’s family, but police intervened and made his arrest, Iko said.

Eastern Equatoria State Police spokesperson, Maj Justine Kleopus Takuru, confirmed that the suspect was in custody and urged local residents to work hard to overcome the current economic difficulties.

Maj Takuru also called for peaceful resolution of conflicts in homes and communities.

“The 36-year-old suspect is currently in custody,” he said, adding that most of the suicides are related to the current economic difficulties.
