Officials say video showing ‘foreigners’ cutting through Allegheny County voting line is not real

SOUTH PARK, Pa. (KDKA) — A video is circulating on social media claiming that “foreigners” were allowed to cut off the line at a remote voting site in South Park in Allegheny County. However, district officials said this was not true and the people lining up were registered voters.

The video has gone viral, with an individual claiming that non-citizens were able to vote at a county polling place in South Park, Pennsylvania. The municipality stated that this was not true.

The video was allegedly recorded on Saturday, October 26, at the South Park ice rink on Corrigan Drive. The video shows that people identified as “foreigners” allegedly cut in the way of other people in line and received special treatment, but the Allegheny County Elections Department said that did not happen.

In a statement, local election officials indicate that a group of voters who came to apply for postal ballots needed the help of translators. There was a short conversation between voters, their translators and an employee of the county office.

The group initially moved to the front of the line for instructions. Elderly or disabled voters could sit in a special place while waiting for their applications to be processed. Able voters returned to the back of the line. And those who needed the help of a translator could have a translator help them with the process.

“The deadline to register to vote was October 21. Therefore, anyone who requested an absentee ballot last weekend alone would have received a ballot if they were already registered. Only U.S. citizens may register to vote,” the county said. in a statement.

Voter Nancy Graham said she hopes everyone can just breathe a sigh of relief, and when it comes to online videos, “you have to take it with a grain of salt,” she said. “You don’t know unless you read it from other sources. We don’t have to be best friends, but we do have to respect each other.”
