Traffic and students affected by the Peace River fire

People were asked to avoid the north end of the Peace River on Wednesday due to a large structure fire.

The fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon near Avenue 77.

An evacuation center has been set up for evacuees at the Baytex Energy Center at 9810 73 Ave.

Students from Springfield Elementary School and Good Shepherd School were also affected.

The Peace River School Division transportation department said there is no bus service to Springfield Elementary School due to the fire.

Alternative arrangements have been made for most students, but officials said any student who normally takes a bus to kindergarten will have to be picked up by a parent.

There is no information about anyone injured as a result of the fire.

Peace River is approximately 490 kilometers north of Edmonton.
