Former Sheriff Laurens Co. inducted into the S.C. Law Enforcement Hall of Fame

COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) – On Wednesday, a former Laurens County sheriff was inducted into the South Carolina Law Enforcement Hall of Fame.

Sheriff R. Eugene Johnson of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office was recognized along with six other officers.

The ceremony recognized law enforcement officials with a proven track record of excellence, a merit award and recognition in the South Carolina Law Enforcement Hall of Fame.

Inductees have an exemplary record and at least 25 years of service. Applicants must not be currently employed by an agency or have been employed within the last five years. They can also be nominated posthumously.

“It is an honor to be here today as we honor these incredible law enforcement personnel who have dedicated their lives to serving others,” Robert G. Woods IV, director of the S.C. Department of Public Safety and chairman of the S.C. Law Enforcement Hall of Fame Advisory Committee, said in a release . “Their induction into the Law Enforcement Hall of Fame will ensure that their sacrifices will be remembered for generations to come.”

Six other officers were also recognized:

  • Colonel Anna J. Amos with the South Carolina State Transportation Police
  • Chief Wendell Davis of the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety
  • Lieutenant Horace P. “Hoss” Horton Jr. with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
  • Lt. M. B. “Sonny” Huggins III of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division
  • Chief Williams C. “Bill” Mobley of the York Police Department
  • Director Alvin A. Taylor with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources.
