KINGSTON, Jamaica – A manhunt has been launched for a convict who escaped from police custody after his sentencing at the Supreme Court in downtown Kingston on Thursday.

Police are now trying to recover Anthony Williams, otherwise known as Pops, of an Allman Town address in Kingston. Williams, 22, was recently found guilty of unlawful possession of a firearm and common law assault.

After being sentenced Thursday to 12 years in prison for illegal possession of a firearm and more than 14 years in prison for assault, Williams ran from the courtroom, then jumped from the second floor of a building onto Tower Street before escaping.

The incident occurred just after 11:00. Appeals were made for Williams to come forward.

This is a developing story. More details coming soon.
