Bama in the NFL, week 9 tracker

It always seems a little odd that the Natinal Football League falls mid-season around the same time that the college games begin, but that’s the scheduling reality. If anything, it’s only increasingly incongruous that the NCAA is starting its regular season earlier and the pros are kicking off February with the Super Bowl.

So yes, college football is heading into the final month of the regular season while the NFL enters Week 9, with Week 18 scheduled to be played in January, so there will still be a lot of football left to be played in the 2024-2025 season. The one constant between the two is that teams want to play their best as we get closer to the end of the season, and as the NFL loosens its trade restrictions, the number of trades increases. The trade deadline is next week on November 5, but a number of former Alabama Crimson Tide players have already been impacted by a number of moves.

We’ll just name five, but first we need to get the quarterbacks out of the way because Alabama fans should already be paying attention to their progress. Tua Tagovailoa returns to play after last setback due to concussion, Mac Jones remains in Jacksonville as a high-profile backup and Bryce Young returns to the helm at Carolina, but for how long? He had a season-high 224 passing yards and two touchdowns last week in Denver.

It goes away Jalen hurtsof course, because the Eagles (5-2) have Super Bowl aspirations but sit second in the NFC East behind the surprising Washington Commanders. He had two rushing touchdowns and a 119.3 passer rating in Cincinnati last week, making him the first player in NFL history to throw multiple rushing touchdowns and over 100 passing yards in consecutive games. The only other player in NFL history with three rushing scores, a touchdown pass and more than 130 passing yards in a game was Greg Landry of the Detroit Lions on October 1, 1972 in Chicago).

Nevertheless, here are five roles that are on the rise:

Former Alabama Crimson Tide wide receiver Jerry Jeudy

WITH Amari Cooper be traded to Buffalo, Jerry Jeudy plays a much larger role for the Browns, who also have a new quarterback in Jameis Winston. He had five catches for a season-high 79 yards last week as Cleveland beat the Ravens, Elijah Moore had a season-high eight receptions for 85 yards and Cedric Tillman had seven receptions and a career-high 99 yards. his first two touchdowns. The Browns also have linebacker Nick Chubb. Even though they are 2-6, this is a team that no one really wants to play again.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide player left forward Cam Robinson

It’s not like the Jacksonville Jaguars suddenly thought so Cam Robinson was expendable, but it was the last year of the contract and the team’s chances of advancing in the postseason were slim. In Minnesota, he replaces Christian Darrisaw, who tore his ACL and ACL last week. The Vikings didn’t have to sacrifice much to acquire him because Robinson is 29 years old and still looks like a playoff team despite two straight losses.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide, Jahmyr Gibbs linebacker for the Detroit Lions

Among back-to-back 100-yard dash performances, Jahmyr Gibbs becomes a unique offensive threat for the Lions. Last week, the running back had 137 rushing yards and a sixth touchdown. He has exceeded 70 yards in every game this season. He is seventh in the league in rushing with 591 yards, one yard behind Naje Harrisbut with only 92 carries. For comparison, Harris has 136. By the way, Josh Jacobs he’s fourth with 667 yards on 145 attempts. There is no doubt that Alabama continues to be the Running Back U.

Former Alabama Crimson Tide linebacker Daron Payne of the Washington Commanders.

It’s a bit unfair to say that Daron Payne helps overcome the emptiness JOnathan AllenAllen’s season-ending injury because Allen is a more versatile player, but the commanders still need him to strengthen. He recorded his first sack of the season last week. He always seems to do well against this week’s opponent, the Giants. He had a forced fumble and recovery in the last game.

Ridley tied a career high with 10 receptions last week after the Tennessee Titans traded DeAndre Hopkins to the Kansas City Chiefs. The 143-yard score marked the seventh time he had topped 125 yards in a game, but it was his first total since the 2020 season.

He is undoubtedly the top receiver at Tennessee, where quarterback Will Levis is dealing with a shoulder injury.

It has to be Miami at Buffalo for Tagovailoa’s storyline, as he’s facing the same division rival he suffered his last injury against in Week 2. In his first game last week, he completed 28 of 38 passes (73.7 percent) for 234 yards. He has surpassed 200 passing yards in each of his four previous visits to Buffalo, and the 2-5 Dolphins desperately need a win.

In this case, we’re deviating a bit from the norm and highlighting the defensive line duel between the Texans and Jets. Will Anderson Jr. is third in the league with 7.5 points this season and is looking to score at least one goal for the fourth game in a row. Meanwhile, Quinnen Williams he had 1.5 sacks last week and seems to be gaining momentum for the Jets. Acquiring a linebacker C.J. Mosley Coming back from a finger injury obviously helps too DeMeco Ryans the team could essentially deal a knockout blow to the Jets’ dwindling playoff chances.

Anderson, by the way, was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month. He recorded 17 tackles, seven tackles for loss, five sacks, a fumble recovery and one pass defensed. Tackles for loss led the NFL and five sacks led the AFC. Anderson was the third former Alabama defensive lineman to earn the honor and join Antwan Odom (September 2009) and Williams (October 2022).

“When you have a guy like McKinney who has instincts, handles the ball really well, sees it and feels it, he has six picks now. So you get in the quarterback’s face and force him to make a throw he shouldn’t, and it’s a little off, and this guy will make you pay for it.
