Police say two people are dead and six others injured in an overnight shooting in downtown Orlando.

According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, officers reported shots fired around 1:07 a.m. Friday morning in the area of ​​Central Blvd and Orange Avenue, and a second report of shots fired was received a few minutes later in the area of ​​Washington Street and Orange Avenue.

According to Smith, the six injured people were taken to local hospitals for “further treatment” and are in stable condition.

Smith said a 17-year-old suspect was located and arrested shortly after reports of shots fired. Smith said the teen had a previous arrest for theft in 2023.

“This is still an active investigation. As we gather more information, we will provide another update,” Smith said at a news conference Friday morning.
