Two people are dead and six injured in a mass shooting in downtown Orlando

Police say two people are dead and six others injured in an overnight shooting in downtown Orlando.

According to Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith, officers reported shots fired around 1:07 a.m. Friday morning in the area of Central Blvd and Orange Avenue, and a second report of shots fired was received a few minutes later in the area of Washington Street and Orange Avenue.

According to Smith, the six injured people were taken to local hospitals for “further treatment” and are in stable condition.

Smith said a 17-year-old suspect was located and arrested shortly after reports of shots fired. Smith said the teen had a previous arrest for theft in 2023.

“This is still an active investigation. As we gather more information, we will provide another update,” Smith said at a news conference Friday morning.
