Prosecutors deny releasing video of Diddy and Cassie assault and express ‘grave concerns’ for victims

Prosecutors in Sean “Diddy” Combsin an ongoing lawsuit, they have denied intentionally leaking footage of the disgraced rapper physically attacking his ex Cassie in 2016.

In court documents filed on Wednesday, October 30 and obtained by “Nas” weekly prosecutors opposed Diddy’s requests for an injunction to remain silent regarding the video.

“The court should deny the leak claim for a simple reason: Defendant has failed to demonstrate that any grand jury materials were leaked,” court documents read. “Without any factual basis, the leak request seeks to suppress highly probative evidence – video of Combs brutally physically assaulting the victim in March 2016, published by the media in May 2024 – by claiming it was grand jury footage, which was leaked by a government of CNN operatives.”

The motion adds: “However, as defendant is fully aware, the video was not in the government’s possession at the time of CNN’s publication, and the government never at any stage obtained it in the grand jury proceedings.”

The video of Diddy’s alleged assault on Cassie will be a “key element” of the performer’s trial

Diddy’s trial is currently scheduled to start in 2025, and his lawyers are trying to keep the CNN footage out of court.

“The accused is grasping at straws. Because defendant cannot show that the information contained in the cited articles constitutes grand jury material, and because he cannot show that government agents with access to the grand jury materials disclosed the information, he cannot make the prima facie evidence required to obtain the relief sought demands.” prosecutors add court documents denying leak of other sensitive material to other news outlets. “Furthermore, even if any of the information contained in the cited articles may be deemed to be non-public information that has been improperly disclosed, the defendant’s claim for relief under Local Penal Rule 23.1 is moot by the order entered by the Court dated October 25, 2024.”

In the documents, lawyers also expressed “serious concerns” about Diddy’s alleged victims and trial witnesses.

“In this case, as detailed in the indictment and during his bail hearings, the defendant has an extensive history of violence and obstruction of justice,” the filing reads. “Actually, Judge Carter as found by clear and convincing evidence at the conclusion of the second trial, defendant “poses a threat of obstruction of justice and witness tampering” and “poses a threat to the safety of other members of the community more generally.” Due to defendant’s background, the Government has serious concerns about the safety of victims and the potential for witness tampering if defendant was provided with a list of victims’ names.”

CNN obtained and published the video in May, in which Diddy, now 54, grabs Cassie, now 37, by the neck, pushing, pulling and kicking her repeatedly in a Los Angeles hotel. The footage was dated 2016.

A timeline of Diddy’s legal problems and accusations: from Cassie’s lawsuit to multiple arrests

In a few hours, Diddy issued an apology for his actions, without directly mentioning Cassie (full name Casandra Ventura).

“It’s hard to remember the darkest moments in life, sometimes you have to do it,” he said in an Instagram video. “I was screwed up. I mean, I’ve hit rock bottom, but I’m not making excuses. My behavior in this video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in this video. I’m disgusted.”

Diddy added: “I went and sought professional help. I go to therapy and rehabilitation. It was necessary to ask God for His mercy and grace. I’m very sorry, but I try to be a better person every day. I’m not asking for forgiveness. I’m really sorry.

Diddy claims that the Department of Homeland Security leaked the video of Cassie’s attack and requests an evidentiary hearing

Diddy he pleaded not guilty to the charges before a judge denied him bail on three separate occasions. He was held in the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn pending his trial.

“We are disappointed in the decision to continue what we believe to be unfair prosecution of Mr. Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office” – Diddy’s lawyer Marek Agnifilo he said “Nas” weekly. in a statement earlier this month. “Sean “Diddy” Combs is a music icon, self-made entrepreneur, family-loving and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire, adoring his children and working to uplift the black community. He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal.”
