A 19-year-old woman was killed in a crash on Route 27 in Roselle

A woman was killed in a crash on Route 27 in Roselle late Halloween evening, according to police.

Roselle police say the crash happened around 11:40 p.m. at the intersection of St. George and Chandler. They say a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox hit the curb, went over a fence line, continued through an open parking lot and eventually came to rest in an adjacent Wawa parking lot.

The victim was identified as 19-year-old Jayla Pryor of Linden. She was a passenger in the vehicle. The driver was her brother, 27-year-old Joshua Pryor, who suffered minor injuries in the accident.

The incident blocked road 27 in both directions for several hours. They finally reopened around 9 a.m. on Friday. The Wawa parking lot and gas pumps were also closed for some time.

Roselle Mayor Donald Shaw expressed his condolences to the victim’s family.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation. Roselle police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the crash investigator at [email protected] or 908-259-4019.
