Nick Bosa Likely Won’t Get Suspended for MAGA Hat Over NFL Preview Incident: Report

The NFL He is reportedly looking into an incident in which San Francisco 49ers linebacker Nick Bosa showed off a “Make America Great Again” hat during a live postgame interview.

Bosa will reportedly not face a suspension, but could be fined for violating league rules, CBS Sports NFL insider Jonathan Jones reported. The incident occurred when Bosa interfered in a postgame interview with 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy following the team’s victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night. Bosa walked up to Purdy and pointed to his hat. San Francisco tight end George Kittle laughed as the star linebacker ran back to the locker room.

During the post-match press conference, Bosa did not want to comment on the matter.

“I won’t talk too much about it, but I think it’s an important moment,” he said after the match.

Bosa has been a longtime supporter of former President Trump, even before he joined the NFL. He revealed this in 2019 he cleaned his X coverage of Trump’s posts and criticism of former 49ers quarterback and activist Colin Kaepernick over concerns that the city of San Francisco may not fully accept him if he is drafted by the 49ers.

Former Chicago Bears great Brian Urlacher lent his support to Bosa. He commented on Bosa’s Instagram post, in which the 49ers defensive lineman posted a collage of photos, including a moment in which he showed off a Trump-supporting hat.

“MAGA,” Urlacher wrote in the comments section along with two American flags.

Meanwhile, Robert Rivas, who is the 71st speaker of the California State Assembly, has called for the sale of Bosa.

“I hope (49ers general manager) @JedYork trades Nick Bosa to Mar-A-Lago. As a lifelong @49ers fan, I can say I’ve seen enough of Bosa in California.” Rivas posted on X.

The NFL Rules states in Rule 5, Section 4, Article 8 what players are allowed to wear and, more importantly, what they are not allowed to wear when going to the stadium on match day.

“The league will not permit any club or player to wear, display or otherwise convey messages through helmet stickers, armbands, jersey patches, mouthpieces or other items affixed to uniforms or game equipment that are associated with political activities or events, other events, actions or campaigns not related to football, charity actions or campaigns. Additionally, any approved items must be modest, tasteful, non-commercial and non-controversial; season,” we read in the regulations.

“At all times during the day when a player is visible to the stadium and television audience (including during pre-match warm-ups, on the bench, and during post-match interviews in the locker room or on the pitch), players are prohibited from wearing, displaying or otherwise transmitting personal messages in written or pictorial form, unless such messages have been previously approved by the League office,” we read in the manual.

The rule also states that things such as “anniversaries or memorable events or honoring or commemorating specific individuals” with helmet stickers, jersey patches and armbands are allowed, provided notification is made to the league office.

The league had previously fined him $10,000 Pittsburgh Steelers receiver George Pickens for having a personal message flashed before his eyes during the Oct. 6 game against the Cowboys.

Meanwhile, Bosa isn’t the only vocal Trump supporter in the league.

Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker also endorsed Trump earlier this year, while Philadelphia Eagles defensive lineman Thomas Booker IV took a stand against Vice President Kamala Harris.
