An Aurora man gave the victim cocaine before sexually assaulting him

AURORA — A jury has found an Aurora man guilty of sexual assault after prosecutors say he provided drugs to the victim before the 2022 assault.

According to Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser, a jury found 42-year-old Ricardo Lemos, of Aurora, guilty of sexual assault on Thursday of last week.

In court, prosecutors argued that on July 2, 2022, Lemos supplied cocaine to the victim, whom he knew at the time, before he sexually assaulted her. Due to drugs, the victim was unable to consent to sexual activity.

“The defendant took advantage of his relationship with the victim to commit the sexual assault. He didn’t count on her strength when she came forward and reported this crime. Thank you to the victim and ASA Bridget Carlson, victim advocate Sheila Gray and Detective Benjamin Grabowski of the Aurora Police Department,” said Assistant State’s Attorney Matthew Rodgers.

Lemos, who remains in custody at Kane Couty, will return to court on December 20 to enter post-hearing motions. He faces 4 to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and is not eligible for probation.
