Two women injured after falling off Shepherd of the Hills roller coaster

TANEY COUNTY, Mo. (KY3) – Two women were taken to a Springfield hospital Friday evening after an incident while riding at Shepherd of the Hills near Branson.

According to Jim Ferguson with the Western Taney County Fire Protection District, firefighters were called to Shepherd of the Hills around 6 p.m. for an incident involving a roller coaster.

Ferguson says both women suffered moderate injuries after falling from their wheelchairs on the roller coaster.

The case is currently being investigated by the Headquarters of the State Fire Service. According to the Office of the Fire Marshal, the women were in their 50s and fell from the wheelchair on a curve about 6 feet above the ground. State services were on the scene around 7 p.m

Investigators returned later in the day Saturday to investigate further. Officials say the ride will not be allowed until the investigation is complete.

According to Shepherd of the Hills websiteThe Copperhead Mountain Coaster is a 4,800-foot roller coaster offering a two-seat ride. The website claims to meet the highest security and technical standards and was built by Wiegand.
