4 people dead and 17 injured in Michigan after semi-truck crashes into stopped traffic

Four people were killed and 17 injured in a massive crash on Interstate 96 near Webberville, Michigan, about 70 miles west of Detroit, late Saturday evening.

Police said the fatal collision occurred just before midnight when a truck and trailer approached traffic on the interstate and stopped but failed to stop in time. The truck hit several vehicles driving in the left lane.

According to the police, the truck and several vehicles caught fire as a result of the impact.

The services reported that about 15 vehicles, including a truck, were involved in the incident.

The highway will remain closed in both directions until the investigation is completed and debris is cleared.

Authorities said traffic on I-96 was briefly stopped before the crash so utility crews could work on power lines. Troopers were about to reopen the interstate when the crash occurred.
