Two Delhi Traffic Police officers were hit by a car and dragged by their bonnet for 20 meters in southwest Delhi’s Kishangarh on Saturday evening. Police said the perpetrator’s car had been identified, but the accused had not yet been arrested.

Videos of the incident appeared on the Internet and quickly gained huge popularity when “brave” police officers were spotted on the Internet holding on to the hood of the car as it crossed the intersection, turned around and drove to the other side of the road. way. Both officers then fell and continued to attempt to stop the car, but to no avail.

The two officers were identified as assistant sub-inspector Pramod Singh and head constable Sailesh Chouhan. They sustained minor injuries and were discharged from Safdarjung Hospital after treatment, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South West) Surendra Choudhary.

According to police, the control room was informed about the incident on Ber Sarai Road in Kishangarh around 8 p.m. The caller informed them that a car had hit traffic officers and asked for a PCR vehicle, but not an ambulance. Police who arrived at the scene found that the officers were taken to hospital, and after further investigation, it turned out that they were unconscious at the hospital.

After recovery, their statements were recorded.

DCP Choudhary said two officers deployed at Vasant Vihar roundabout were sending mobile chase calls on Vedant Deshika Marg around 7.45 pm when a white car ran a red light and was heading towards them. “Chouhan signaled to stop and the driver initially stopped him. When Chouhan asked the driver to get out of the car, he tried to escape from the spot, dragged him by the hood for about 20 meters, then hit him and fled the spot,” said a DCP officer.

Police said the scene was checked by a mobile forensics and forensics team. CCTV footage was also obtained and analyzed.

“The officers alleged that the driver of the car obstructed them in the performance of their duties and then tried to kill the above police officers by dragging them behind him. The facts, circumstances and statements submitted by the injured officers show that, prima facia, they committed a crime of attempted murder and obstructing the performance of official duties,” the officer said.

On Saturday, a case was registered under Art. 109(1)/221/132/121(1)/3(5) BNS.

“The search for the vehicle and the perpetrator is ongoing. The offending vehicle was registered in the name of Jai Bhagwan, a resident of Nangal Devat in Vasant Kunj. However, it is not known whether he was driving the vehicle or not,” the officer said.
