Two people arrested after a three-vehicle collision that left a woman with serious injuries

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Metro Nashville Police Department is investigating a three-vehicle crash that left a woman with life-threatening injuries.

According to police, the crash happened Sunday morning on Interstate 24 near the Bell Road exit.

Police issued arrest warrants for 45-year-old Yimer Veleno for reckless aggravated assault, aggravated assault with a vehicle, open container violation and no insurance.

Police said the front-seat passenger in the Veleno, whose name has not been confirmed, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered life-threatening injuries.

Police say Veleno and the driver of a white pickup truck were driving aggressively just after 2 a.m. and tried to run each other off the road.

As both vehicles approached the Bell Road exit, the Honda struck the rear of the van and the side of the Mazda SUV.

Police said the van drove away when Velena and the Mazda driver stopped at the exit ramp.

Police said the driver of the Mazda, 25-year-old Nilubon Wiphawachart, was driving under the influence of alcohol and was arrested for driving under the influence.

“Officers are asking for the public’s help in locating the van. Its rear end is damaged, including broken rear windows,” police said. “Anyone with information on this case and/or the driver is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.”
